'Bharat Atta' will be sold through cooperating NAFED.
Ahead of Diwali Festival, the centre on Monday formally launched the sale of wheat flour, 'Bharat Atta' at a subsidised rate of Rs.27.50 per kg across the country to provide relief to consumers from high prices.
'Bharat Atta' will be sold through cooperative NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandar through 800 mobile vans and 2,000-odd outlets spread across India. For this, the Centre has allocated 250,000 tonnes of wheat to Nafed, NCCF and other agencies at a price of Rs. 21.50 per kg for converting it into 'Bharat Atta'.
The subsidised rate is lower than the prevailing market rate of Rs.36-70 per kg, depending on the quality and location. In addition to 'atta' (wheat flour), the Centre is also selling gram dal (chana dal) at a subsidised rate of Rs. 60 per kg also under the 'Bharat' brand. The actual market price of gram dal is some where around Rs. 80 per kg. The chana dal is also being sold through the outlets of Naked, NCCF and other cooperative socities.
In February, the government had carried out a pilot sale of 18,000 tonnes of 'Bharat Atta' at Rs.29.50 per kilogramme through cooperatives in few outlets as part of the Price Stabalisation Fund (PSF) scheme.
The difference the procurement cost of wheat and the subsidised sale will be provide for to Nafed and other agencies from the PSF scheme.
